Luscher Farm/Hazelia Field Park

About 10-15 minutes outside of Portland, just a couple miles off of Hwy. 43 you will find some beautiful farm land and trails waiting for adventure. IMG_3284

Luscher Farm, located at 125 Rosemont Road, is a former dairy farm, purchased in 1990 by the city of Lake Oswego. It is now home to several organic and sustainable gardening programs. Among other things, Luscher Farm has a wonderful children’s garden and outdoor classroom.IMG_3297

Between April-October, they have a free story time on the Farm.  Tuesdays from 10-10:45 a.m for ages 0-3 and Thursdays from 10-11 a.m. for ages 3-8. Rain or Shine!

The farm is also open dawn to dusk to explore.  My children enjoyed watching the chickens, wandering the gardens, and checking out the old tractors.

My husband and I enjoyed walking the trails from Luscher Farm to Hazelia Field Park, while our children rode their bikes on the paved trail.  It is a perfect distance for early bike riders or smaller children on balance bikes. Farm to Park, what could be better?

IMG_3267Hazelia Field Park, has a fenced off-leash dog area, a playground, and a large turf field (usually being used by sports teams). There is also a restroom and drinking fountain located just next to the playground. The playground does not have the traditional playground equipment of slides and swings, but does have several options for climbing, spinning and imaginative play. I could see this park being rather frustrating for children under ages 3 or 4, unless they are strong climbers. It is best geared for ages 5-12. There are plenty of park benches to sit, watch the kids, and enjoy the view of Luscher Farm up on the hill.

Have you visited Luscher Farms or Hazelia Field Park recently? What did you think?  I’d love to hear from you!
